December is here which means its time for the annual Winter Visual Novel Jam, a game jam dedicated to making winter-themed visual novels! This year myself (Arimia) and an acquaintance Maricu are cohosting the jam. I’ll also be entering the jam with a game concept from earlier this year I showed in our newsletter—now, I’d like to show more of it!

Lost Lune is an action fantasy visual novel set in a post apocalyptic future where a foreign god has descended upon earth, wreaking havoc in its wake and casting the planet into an eternal night.
A decade has passed since the foreign god’s appearance, filling it with madness and destroying over a quarter of humanity within the first few months. Humanity has fought back but is still on its last legs against anomalous humanoid creatures with logic-defying powers. One of these fighters, Herber, loses their partner in a recent attack and has to fight to get them back against all odds.

Play as Herber Weiss, a Scavenging leader for one of the last strongholds of humanity as they fight against the hordes.
The full project is estimated to be around 50k words with 2 endings (and more dead endings). The Winter VN Jam version will be a demo of the project, around a third of the project’s full size.
Currently, the script is at around 6k words with several character artworks finished—you’re looking at some right now!

This project is very much a tonal shift from Canvas Menagerie, but I hope you’ll enjoy it all the same! Over the next few weeks I’ll be posting more devlogs on the process of it and hopefully a demo by the end of the year.
